Rocket ::Love::

One of the downsides to working so far away from where I live is the fact that I do not get to eat at Rocket every day. Of course, I'm sure it's a good thing considering I would be broke if I did - but it would be completely worth it! haha

So, when I heard that they would be on the Torrington Uconn campus tonight I was so happy and excited that I would get to try their new menu item. A tomato, basil and fresh mozzarella sandwich on focaccia. Let me tell you how A-MAZING this sandwich was. My mouth waters just thinking about it. Plus those frites are the best french fries I have ever had. And let me tell you I am a GIANT fan of crunchy steak fries in honey mustard dressing (it's one of my favorite things) but when I eat Rocket fries I don't even want a sauce clouding their amazing flavor. Ok I'm done gushing - onto the photos!

I shot with my 50mm 1.8 lens. It's actually a cheapo crazy affordable lens that every new dslr user should buy. Because it's a prime lens (fixed focal length) the colors are so crisp and the focus is unbelievably sharp. Plus with an f-stop of 1.8 it produces amazing depth of field. You can score one on amazon for $100. A 50mm 1.4 is about $400 and a 50mm 1.2 is about $1300. It's all in the f-stop.

Oh and they give you way more french fries than what is pictured here - I may have eaten half of them on the drive home <3

I love a clean menu with a smooth font. I'm somewhat of a font snob.

Don't forget the Avery's! I am not a huge fan of cherry flavored soda but for some reason I LOVE Avery's dark cherry soda. It's absolute perfection and it makes me ridiculously happy.

Thank you Joe and Patricia for always being completely awesome! I spent 25 minutes being the creeper who kept chatting with the food truck people and then taking photographs. I bet people thought I was a reporter or something. That's more normal I guess.

You can normall find Rocket in downtown Torrington in the Oddo Print Shop parking lot! Find more information HERE!

::She Eats Planets::

I LIED! haha

I was slightly delayed in making my bed time so I figured I would give you your sneak peek tonight. Plus the less I have to think about in the morning the better - otherwise this post would have just been a bunch of unreadable gibberish with the wrong photo attached!

While this isn't a serious band shot I think it portrays them superbly! While they take their craft seriously - in reality they're just a bunch of goofballs. It was so much fun to shoot them just having a ball.

Why I ::Miss:: Walgreens

Ok so tonights post was going to be a badass sneak peek of the She Eats Planets shoot. Unfortunately my new computer had about a thousand updates to do and it took the entire night. I'm going to try and do the sneak peek in the morning - the LATEST would be tomorrow evening. So keep your eyes peeled and keep checking back!

In the meantime I took a couple of cutesy videos on my last day at Walgreens and I just managed to get them off of my old computer and put them on my new one which can handle uploading to youtube so much better. I took the first video because every day I worked with Margaret she would greet me with a huge "JILLY JILLY JILLY" and it was pretty much the greatest. She always made me smile. The second video was right after that one when I figured why not try and get another video goodbye! I spent Sunday through Thursday visiting Kathy throughout the day for the greatest stories ...ever. haha They were often used against her later - whenever she was feeling down I would bring one up and her cheeks would flush and we would start laughing. I may miss that. Despite LOVING my new job.

My loves! haha How great are they? The laughter in the background is Jacob and I. I miss him too!

Ok I am going to try and get to She Eats Planets before bed so that it's ready for me in the AM.

Catrina & Adam ::Engaged::

I had so much fun editing these photos the second time around. With my new computer Lightroom responds so wonderfully to every edit - and I can see finer details and really enhance my images.

All of the photographs were taken at White Memorial in Litchfield, Connecticut. One of the most popular trails of the reserve is the 1 mile boardwalk that takes you in a loop over the marshlands and I figured that would give us an incredible backdrop for the photographs. This was one of the first shoots that I've done with the sun going down too. Most of my shoots have ended up being in the morning - the light is still good but when it starts going down it has an ethereal quality you can't help but fall in love with.

Catrina & Adam were wonderful together too. I know Adam is probably denying that fact because he was so nervous and uncomfortable with me snapping away - but I truly LOVE the final results. He may not be a huge fan of looking at the camera and smiling - but whenever Catrina was able to make him laugh or it was the few moments after they kissed - he had the most brilliant, happy smile on his face. Enjoy!

See - perfect smiles!

It was Adam's idea to give Catrina a piggy back and it was so cute.

I love these next two for their simplicity and softness.

I love adding a little bit of grain to a photograph. I try not to do it too often, but sometimes - especially when there is a lot going on - it has the opposite effect and smooths the image.

The rest of the images from the shoot are on Flickr. Click through any of the above photos to see the rest! I'm off to start going through band photos for She Eats Planets...this should be fun!

::That's Life::

I was going to have a great update today with photographs from Catrina & Adam's engagement session. However, my external hard drive decided to crash while I was uploading them to flickr. So while the hard drive is being repaired/having the files recovered I need to re-edit the entire session because I don't know how long it will take to fix. Luckily I have everything I've done since Carter & Corinne's wedding backed up and everything else is on Flickr from before that - but it still sucks a lot.

There is some happiness from the tragedy of my busted external hard drive. After finding out that they couldn't really do anything for me (since I'm out of state and won't send it out from here) I needed to figure out how I would process all of my recent photo shoots.  My MacBook simply cannot handle having RAW files on it. I have 24GB of 120GB left to work from and to give you an idea of how much space the photographs take up - Carter & Corinne's original RAW files take up 12.4GB of space on my MacBook. Then I have to export the files with my watermark and without my watermark and until disks are exchanged and everything works okay I will not delete the original RAW files. It is craziness. After looking at a couple of them I decided I didn't feel comfortable dropping $100 for a drive I hadn't researched. Especially since the drive I did research ended up failing on me in less than one year. I only had one other option. Buy a better computer.

I decided to look at their iMacs - just to see if it was really doable. I have been looking to buy one for 3 months now and was debating if it was worth the investment.  I would be spending a lot of money. But, I would be saving myself a lot of time. Time spent editing at a snails pace and time worrying about how much longer my computer will last. It ended up that Best Buy had an open box iMac - soo this girly has a new computer. It is giant, beautiful, and perfect. Someone apparently returned it a week after getting it and now I have a mega fast processor and 1TB of hard drive space. Now my (new) external hard drive will work as an actual back up instead of my computer being my backup. This also means that I will be able to edit ridiculously fast and not spend entire nights editing 30 photographs.

On a different note I've decided to sell my T1i. I am not made of money and need to make compromises. I was using it for shooting weddings as a single shooter. I don't plan on being a single shooter anymore (having Rachel at C&C's was just monumental for me) and I don't shoot weddings like mad so I'm ok with that. If you're interested in buying it email me for more information. Once I am home I will have a full listing with the price I'm asking for and what is included.

In the meantime here's the story of a recent flickr find that rocks my world::

I found this photograph on flickr about a month ago. I was looking inspiration for the gypsy/cameo tattoo I want to get on my arm (someday in the far far future when money literally grows on trees) and I decided that instead of the sailor look that traditional tattoos have I wanted a more vintage, soft, romantic type look. Something more feminine and lovely.
I love the look she has on her face. There is so much confidence in her expression. When I looked up her name on Wikipedia it said this::
"Once leaving the movie world, Norma Talmadge rid herself of all the duties and responsibilities of stardom. She sweetly told eager fans who were pressing her for an autograph as she left a restaurant, "Get away, dears. I don't need you anymore."[8][9] However, she was regarded a loyal friend who thought nothing of standing by those she cared about, either publicly amid rumors or scandal or privately."

 I loved her instantly! haha So she resides in my random folder of photos I keep on my desktop waiting for the day when she can be immortalized in a bitchin' tattoo. She is surrounded by other tattoo inspiration including these::

If you've made it this far in this post (without scrolling passed my blabbing) you deserve an award. I think this is the most I've written in a post since my first one. Thank you for sticking around. I should have Catrina & Adam's photos up by tomorrow.

I hope you're enjoying your long weekend!

The Creative Process ::Explained::

I saw this while sitting in my Dad's living room with my step sister and starting laughing ridiculously loud. She looked at me as if I were a crazy person and then I laughed harder...this pretty much represents everything in my life. Binge Eating may be my favorite part of it though..

Lovingly stolen from http://minternet.tumblr.com/
Her blog ALWAYS makes me smile.

Main Street Marketplace ::From the Marquee::

I had the amazing opportunity to shoot from the top of the Warner Marquee! It is incredible up there and was so fantastic because it was my last day at work at Walgreens too so the day just kept getting better and more adventurous and fun.

I let myself go a little bit while editing the last few batches of Main Street Marketplace. Normally when i do portraits I tend to stick with black and white or color - I like the neatness of it. But I figured the Marketplace is an entirely different entity and therefore I can play around a bit! I actually enjoyed playing with presets and dramatic color changes - while I don't think I will permanently adapt that type of editing into my photography I am way more willing to do more extreme edits than I was before.

Onto the photo goodness::

 For most of the event the side of the market closest to Water St (the left side in these photographs) was always the busiest. People tended to settle at that end. Which was one of the reasons why I wanted to go on top of the marquee because it would just be a great crowd shot. Of course, the one day I get to go up and the right side of the Marketplace was BOOMING while the left tended to be full but mostly just trickling with people. So I had to capture all of the bustling crowds from a unique angle...with a pole in the way for most of them too.

I am off to finish my lunch break and continue working at this amazing new job of mine - it's pretty great and I work with the nicest, bestest people (though I do really miss my friends at Walgreens).

Enjoy this lovely Friday!
