I was going to have a great update today with photographs from Catrina & Adam's engagement session. However, my external hard drive decided to crash while I was uploading them to flickr. So while the hard drive is being repaired/having the files recovered I need to re-edit the entire session because I don't know how long it will take to fix. Luckily I have everything I've done since Carter & Corinne's wedding backed up and everything else is on Flickr from before that - but it still sucks a lot.
There is some happiness from the tragedy of my busted external hard drive. After finding out that they couldn't really do anything for me (since I'm out of state and won't send it out from here) I needed to figure out how I would process all of my recent photo shoots. My MacBook simply cannot handle having RAW files on it. I have 24GB of 120GB left to work from and to give you an idea of how much space the photographs take up - Carter & Corinne's original RAW files take up 12.4GB of space on my MacBook. Then I have to export the files with my watermark and without my watermark and until disks are exchanged and everything works okay I will not delete the original RAW files. It is craziness. After looking at a couple of them I decided I didn't feel comfortable dropping $100 for a drive I hadn't researched. Especially since the drive I did research ended up failing on me in less than one year. I only had one other option. Buy a better computer.
I decided to look at their iMacs - just to see if it was really doable. I have been looking to buy one for 3 months now and was debating if it was worth the investment. I would be spending a lot of money. But, I would be saving myself a lot of time. Time spent editing at a snails pace and time worrying about how much longer my computer will last. It ended up that Best Buy had an open box iMac - soo this girly has a new computer. It is giant, beautiful, and perfect. Someone apparently returned it a week after getting it and now I have a mega fast processor and 1TB of hard drive space. Now my (new) external hard drive will work as an actual back up instead of my computer being my backup. This also means that I will be able to edit ridiculously fast and not spend entire nights editing 30 photographs.
On a different note I've decided to sell my T1i. I am not made of money and need to make compromises. I was using it for shooting weddings as a single shooter. I don't plan on being a single shooter anymore (having Rachel at C&C's was just monumental for me) and I don't shoot weddings like mad so I'm ok with that. If you're interested in buying it email me for more information. Once I am home I will have a full listing with the price I'm asking for and what is included.
In the meantime here's the story of a recent flickr find that rocks my world::
I found this photograph on flickr about a month ago. I was looking inspiration for the gypsy/cameo tattoo I want to get on my arm (someday in the far far future when money literally grows on trees) and I decided that instead of the sailor look that traditional tattoos have I wanted a more vintage, soft, romantic type look. Something more feminine and lovely.
I love the look she has on her face. There is so much confidence in her expression. When I looked up her name on Wikipedia it said this::
"
Once leaving the movie world, Norma Talmadge rid herself of all the duties and responsibilities of stardom. She sweetly told eager fans who were pressing her for an autograph as she left a restaurant, "Get away, dears. I don't need you anymore."[8][9] However, she was regarded a loyal friend who thought nothing of standing by those she cared about, either publicly amid rumors or scandal or privately."
I loved her instantly! haha So she resides in my random folder of photos I keep on my desktop waiting for the day when she can be immortalized in a bitchin' tattoo. She is surrounded by other tattoo inspiration including these::
If you've made it this far in this post (without scrolling passed my blabbing) you deserve an award. I think this is the most I've written in a post since my first one. Thank you for sticking around. I should have Catrina & Adam's photos up by tomorrow.
I hope you're enjoying your long weekend!
